TIPS FOR MAKING PHOTOS IN SPRING

It’s finally spring. Although here in the Basque Country, we have noticed little, because with the one that is falling (and the cold that it does) it seems that winter has caught his taste and he has decided to stay a while longer. Anyway, I am already looking forward to taking photos in spring, since like autumn, it is one of my favorite seasons because of its color. So friends and girlfriends there are no excuses that are worth it. Let’s get the camera, the backpack, the filters and go out to take pictures now.

How to make photos in spring

Give prominence to color

A spring without color, it’s not spring, so let’s start there. To make a good photo it is important that we have very clear what we want to convey with it. Spring in general brings us some joy after having been cold for several months in the dark winter. Keep that in mind. Try to convey that joy with a touch of color, with those first rays of Sun that illuminate our increasingly warm and luminous landscapes.

Take care of the composition

Do not take pictures because yes, and the first thing that catches your eye. Try to find some nice element and simplify the framing to give it the maximum prominence. Intersperse detail photos with more angular photos to create a varied photo report.

Take advantage of cloudy days to photograph small details

It is not the first time I have said that taking photos on cloudy days has a lot of advantages. One of the most practical is that we can photograph flowers, insects and spring details in a much more uniform light and without ugly shadows.

The best time to take pictures in spring is at sunrise and sunset

In fact, it is so at any other time of the year, but in spring with more reason than ever. Imagine, the colors of meadows full of flowers combined with an orange sky at dawn or dusk. Not only that, in the first and last hours of the day is when the light is softer, ideal for photographing details as I will tell you later.

Protect the camera and protect yourself too

I told you a long time ago about the importance of protecting the camera. There are some very economical plastics that cover it and protect it from the rain that come great, but do not forget to bring a good raincoat for you too. Lest a nice spring photographic day have to end in bed with a catarrh of the fifteen. Wear comfortable, waterproof clothes and good boots.

What photos to do in spring

The advantage of spring is that it is so photogenic that there are places where it seems that photos jump on you. But let’s not fool ourselves either. Photographers have good streaks and bad streaks, having more or less inspiration depending on the day. If you are lacking inspiration, here are a few ideas for making photos in spring.

Flower

Okay, it seems obvious, but the subject of flowers is a whole world. On the one hand, because each species of flower comes out on different dates, and on the other because it is not as easy as it seems to photograph them. The fact that there is a little wind can already drive you crazy when it comes to framing and focusing. Look for the most beautiful flower in the garden and photograph it from its best profile and with a point of view in which the background does not take away prominence. Trick: there are photographers who put Green cardboards in the background, setting up something like a small miniature studio.

Landscape

It is worth investing time in looking for landscapes in which you can put in the same frame colorful flowers and the first buds of the trees. The first days, the leaves of the trees are almost fluorescent green. So pay attention to those moments because this is how you will have more opportunities to make a spectacular spring photo.

Beach

May is possibly one of the best months to take pictures of seascapes for several reasons. On the one hand, the tides are lower than in winter, there are still not so many tourists normally and best of all, the rocks are covered with fluorescent green algae (like the leaves of trees!). Look for those beaches with green rocks and photograph them at sunrise or sunset. The result will be a full-color photo.

Rain

We can not overlook it because as you well know, rain in spring is the order of the day. Many photographers are lazy to go out to take photos in bad weather (I include myself) but I recommend that you force yourself to go out because it is on rainy days when you get to make the most amazing photos. I’m telling you from experience.

Places to take photos in spring

Sure there will be hundreds of thousands of places all over the world to take pictures in spring, but since I have not had the pleasure of being in all of them, I will recommend a few that I have visited so far with my camera. I’m sure you’ll like them. Pointing:

Recommended photographic equipment for taking photos in spring

Photo camera

It can be an SLR or the one on the mobile phone. It is true that if you know how to handle a SLR camera well, you will have a wider range of possibilities than with the camera of the mobile phone, but do not underestimate these small devices. There are photographers who can do wonders.

Objective

Filter

At other times of the year maybe not but in spring I have the habit of carrying in my backpack all the filters I have: the polarizer to enhance the color and eliminate reflections of the sea and streams, the ND 64x filter to play with slow exposure and make more creative things and the gradient filters for sunrise and sunset.

Triprod

It is one of the culprits of my back problems, but if I want to do landscape photos I can not go without it. Take one that is stable, that is, do not take the lightest there is especially if you are going to take photos on the beach and places where there is wind.

Backpack

Waterproof, of course. Not only when you are going to take photos with rain, since in this season the weather can change in a matter of minutes and it is necessary that we have the necessary resources so that our photographic equipment does not get wet. Seriously, photo cameras if they get very wet get spoiled. And I won’t tell you anything if you get wet with sea water. My 8-month Canon 40d is how I said goodbye.
