Light and safe equipment

  • At carnivals there are usually crowds of people, so we recommend that you carry a small backpack in which to store the equipment so that it is easy to move with agility.
  • The camera and lens, the smaller the better.
  • The objective, we recommend a zoom so that you can approach and move away from the subject with more agility, and that it has the maximum possible aperture.
  • Protect your camera to prevent it from being damaged by liquid. Also bring a suede to clean the target in case it gets dirty.
  • Take a pair or three of cards, to have a spare in case you lose it or so that you do not run out of memory.
  • And an extra battery.

Camera settings

In the event that you are going to take photos at night, when there is little light we would have to leave more exposure time for light to enter. But if we do that, we’ll probably get a blurry image or a trail of light.

To fix that, we can go up the speed and go up the ISO. Depending on the size of the sensor of our camera we will have more or less noise, and we will be able to treat it in editing.

Remember to adjust the white balance to take advantage of the color of the costumes.

Stabilize the camera

Stabilize the camera as much as possible to prevent photos from moving.

It is better to use a monopod than a tripod, because with so many crowds it will be much easier for you to move without incident. If you use the tripod you will take up more space and having three legs someone could trip and fall. You can also carry a Gorilla tripod, which are smaller and more flexible.

And The flash?

You can use flash, but you run the risk of losing the light atmosphere of the environment, and precisely it is interesting to take advantage of the lights of the parsas or fireworks that may be.

Attitude

We recommend that before the day of Carnival you inform yourself Well of the tour of the parades and the most crucial points so that it catches you off guard.

If you interact with people you will get better photos, because they will give you poses or faces related to the costume they wear.
